NOM Mark is mandatory safety mark that indicates that the product is in compliance with the relevant NOM standards. NOM mark is applicable for many products including telecommunications and information technology equipment, household electrical appliances, lamps and other products of potential dangerous danger. Products whether locally manufactured or imported shall comply with the relevant NOM standards and product labeling rules.
According to Mexican law, Nom must licensed to Mexican company, which is responsible for product quality, maintenance and reliability. The report shall be issued by the laboratory accredited by SECOFI and audited by SECOFI, ANCE or NYCE. The product can be pasted with NOM mark if compliance with relevant rules and the manufacturers or importers agency will award the NOM certificate.
There are two verifying organizations can issue the NOM Mark:
a) NOM NYCE: authentication includes all electronic and information products and data processing equipment, but not including household appliances (except microwave)
b) NOM ANCE: authentication includes all electrical appliance and similar appliances (such as household appliances)
Not applicable to IEC standards and applicable to NOM standards.
EMC tests are not needed.
Mexico only recognizes its own NOM safety Mark. The America and Canada safety marks (e.g. UL, ETL, CSA) are not acknowledged by the government. The mandatory required products can enter the Mexican.
NOM mandatory certification for products in general is a voltage exceeding 24 volts AC or DC electrical and electronic products, Mainly applied to product safety, energy and thermal effects, installation, health and agriculture. The following products must be certified before allowed to enter the Mexican NOM Market:
- Electronic or electrical products for home, office and factory use;
- Computer local area network (LAN) equipment;
- Lighting fixtures;
- Tires, toys and school supplies;
- Medical Equipment;
- Cable and wireless communications products, such as wired phones, wireless phones, etc.;
- Products driven by electric, propane, natural gas or battery.
NOM voluntary certification generally applicable to parts, such as conductors, fuses, lamps and ballasts for manufacturers and importers as a reference.
