South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is founded according to National Standards Law promulgated on 1945. It is affiliated to the South African Trade and Industry Institute. SABS is a neutral third-party certification body, responsible for South Africa’s system and product certification.
SABS certification includes system certification and product certification. The product certification includes the following eight categories:
1. Chemical
2. Biological products
3. Fiber products and clothing
4. Machinery products
5. Safety equipment
6. Electrical products
7. Civil engineering and construction
8. Automotive products
Materials and products for construction: stone products, concrete products, roofing materials, cement, lime, cement admixtures, natural building stone, safety glass, steel, wood and wood products, brick, tile, paint, coatings, sealants.
Requirements
a) Product meet a SABS / SANS national standards requirement;
b) Products pass the appropriate standard test;
c) Meet the ISO 9000 quality system requirements or other specified requirements;
d) Only products and quality systems meet the requirements, may apply to use SABS mark;
e) Routine product testing to be carried out under the guidance and submit and open the test results;
f) Quality system assessment at least 2 times per year, and requires the whole content evaluated.
Certificate
1. South Africa certification are two cases: the first application is for LOA and COC, which is mandatory for import. This certification program does not need factory inspection and the SABS mark is not permitted to be pasted on the products. The second application is based on the former to applying for the use of SABS mark. This mark use need a series of factory inspection fee, pay a certain amount of annual fee and factory inspection fee as right to use SABS mark.
2. COC is for EMC test, LOA (Letter of Authority) is for the agent’s approval, directly apply to South Africa. |
