In order to be certified, an audio and video product must comply with applicable safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations.

Electrical Safety and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
The basic requirements for electrical safety of audio, video and similar electronic apparatus are to prevent a range of risks possibly arising from the use of such products and avoid unnecessary personal injury and property damage, including electric injury or electric shock, excess temperature or fire, mechanical injury, radiation hazards, chemical hazards and so on. Those for electromagnetic compatibility are mainly to assess electromagnetic interference caused by such products to the surrounding environment at normal working hours and their immunity to electromagnetic interference existing in the surrounding environment, including electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic sensitivity (EMS).
